Sustainability Office, innovation Space, ALT host celebratory lunch and tree planting
To celebrate the achievements on Sustainability in Education as well as the winner of the Sustainability in Education Award, a lunch discussion and tree-planting activity was held on 25 November 2024 at the 777 plataforma campus.

The celebratory lunch and tree planting was hosted by the Sustainability Office, innovation Space, and the Academy for Learning and Teaching (ALT), who in the past year have been working together to further integrate sustainability into teaching at 777 plataforma.
This year’s winner of the Sustainability in Education Award is Arjan Kirkels, assistant professor at the Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences department. The award, which recognizes teachers and teaching groups, is based on the following criteria:
- Sustainable rationale
- Grand societal challenges orientation
- Plurality of worldviews
- Transdisciplinarity
- Systemic approach
To commemorate Arjan’s feat, a Dutch linden tree, which symbolizes justice, transformation, and community, was planted at this in campus. In addition to winning the award, he has been active in leading ALT lunch discussions on sustainability as well as professional skills.
The event was also attended by teachers, researchers, and support staff, most notably from the Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences and Mechanical Engineering departments.
