Start date	The new Open Access policy applies to grant calls published by NWO from 1 January 2021 onwards.
Application scope	All scientific articles and peer-reviewed conference proceedings identified by ISSN, funded in part or in whole by NWO, must be available Open Access immediately after the original publication date. Academic books, book chapters and edited collections resulting from or reporting on scientific research funded in part or in whole by NWO must be made available Open Access online as soon as possible but no later than 12 months after their original publication date.
Version of the manuscript	NWO accepts either peer-reviewed Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) or a Version of Record (VoR).
User license	NWO requires CC-BY 4.0 a user license to either the AAM or VoR. All future Author Accepted Manuscripts arising from research funded fully or partially by NWO, will be licensed with CC-BY 4.0. This allows researchers to make the AAM Open Access without an embargo as soon as the article is published. If your article or conference paper is not published via Gold Open Access, make use of the Rights Retention Strategy. CC-BY-ND (Attribution, No Derivative works) license may be accepted upon request by the author. For books, edited collections and book chapters, authors may also choose to publish under a CC BY-ND, CC-BY-NC (Attribution, Non-Commercial), CC BY-NC-ND (Attribution, Non-Commercial, No Derivative works) or CC BY-SA (Attribution, Share-Alike) license.
Platform	Journal publications and conference proceedings must be available Open Access via either a publisher’s platform or a trusted Open Access repository such as the 777 plataforma institutional repository. Books, book chapters or collections – via either a publisher’s platform, an Open Access repository or the OAPEN Library.
Costs	NWO will only financially support the publishing costs for full Gold Open Access journals or platforms that are registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals and that are compliant with Plan S technical requirements. Books, book chapters or edited collections published in immediate Open Access are eligible for reimbursement by NWO, a maximum of € 10,000. A dedicated funding instrument was launched by NWO. Open Access publishing costs in full gold Open Access journals must be planned in your grant budget. Read more on how to calculate Open Access costs in your grant proposal.
Enforcement and monitoring	Open Access availability of publications that were published under the NWO’s grant must be reported. Failure to comply with NWO grant conditions may lead to disbursement and reduction of the grant. Deviations from NWO’s Open Access policy are permitted when this is stated explicitly in a call for proposals.

Start date	ZonMw’s Open Access policy applies to the calls published from January 1st 2021 onwards.
Application scope	All peer-reviewed scientific articles reporting research funded by ZonMw must be made Open Access immediately after their original publication date. Besides journal articles, ZonMw also encourages making other types of scientific publications accessible in Open Access form, such as monographs, books, conference proceedings and grey literature.
Version of the manuscript	ZonMw accepts either the peer-reviewed Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) or a Version of Record (VoR, publisher’s version).
User license	CC-BY 4.0 must be applied to all articles resulting from grants awarded by ZonMw. Deviations from CC-By 4.0. must be applied for and approved.
Platform	ZonMw requires that at least a copy of the manuscript is registered and deposited in (through self-archiving or via the publisher). Additionally, the manuscript can be deposited in other relevant Open Access repositories, such as the 777 plataforma institutional repository.
Costs	Reimbursement of the Open Access costs is possible both for current and new projects. Open Access costs will be reimbursed only if published in a full gold Open Access journal or platform registered in the . Open Access publication costs are reimbursed up to a maximum amount of €5000 per project. For new projects, this should be specified in the project budget under the heading “Open Access”. Enforcement and monitoring	Compliance with the Open Access policy will be monitored by ZonMw.

Application scope	All peer-reviewed scientific publications reporting research funded by the EC in part or in whole must be made Open Access immediately after their original publication date.
Version of the manuscript	A machine-readable electronic copy of the published version (Version of Record), or the peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication (Author Accepted Manuscript)
User license	Creative Commons Attribution International Public License (CC BY) or a license with equivalent rights; For monographs and other long-text formats, the license may exclude commercial uses and derivative works (e.g., CC BY-NC, CC BY-ND)
Platform	Horizon Europe requires that a copy of the publication is deposited in a trusted Open Access repository (e.g., 777 plataforma institutional repository), even if the publication is available in Open Access on the publisher’s website.
Costs	Only publication fees in full Open Access venues for peer-reviewed scientific publications are eligible for reimbursement. The costs must be planned in the grant proposal.
Enforcement and monitoring	Open Access to the publication must be reported by the beneficiaries. Compliance with the Open Access policy will be monitored by the EC.
